Hopster partners with STV, Scotland’s leading digital media brand

hopster - August 1, 2018

Hopster and Scotland’s home of news and entertainment STV have entered an exciting new partnership. The deal will make hundreds of educational and fun shows for pre-schoolers available through STV Player VoD service

The innovative deal will see Hopster’s quality content for pre-school children being made available on STV’s online streaming platform, STV Player – the UK’s fastest-growing public service broadcaster VoD (video on demand) service.

As a result, hundreds of episodes of family favourites like In the Night Garden will become freely accessible on a new dedicated Hopster-branded children’s area within STV Player.

Committed to providing kids’ entertainment that is not just fun but also educational, Hopster’s content is academically vetted to ensure quality learning opportunities are provided across a range of media, including premium children’s animations, nursery rhymes, music and video books.

Just like the original Hopster app – available from the App Store and Google Play – the line-up of content integrated within the new STV Player Hopster children’s area will be curated to tie into a unique ‘Discovery Learning Map’, teaching important early years’ skills such as sharing, turn-taking, numeracy, literacy and more.

The kids’ content which will be available on STV Player will include fun science shows such as Little Malabar and StoryBots, animations encouraging inclusivity such as Punky about a little girl with Down syndrome, and original productions only available on Hopster including STEM show Clever Brenda, and Grimms’ fairy tales spin-offs, Two Minute Tales.

The Hopster children’s area is available now on the STV Player at stv.tv and on a variety of platforms including iPhones and iPads, Android tablets and smartphones and selected smart TVs. Over 300 episodes of family favourites will be accessible over the coming months.

Nick Walters, CEO of Hopster said: “We couldn’t be more excited to be powering STV Player’s new children’s service. We started Hopster to help make screen time a win-win for kids and parents through fun educational programming without the ads. Through our new agreement with STV, we hope to reach thousands of families and help them keep their little ones entertained in a safe and ad-free environment.”

Simon Pitts, STV Chief Executive added: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Nick and his award-winning team at Hopster to bring a wide range of fun and educational pre-school programmes to STV Player. At a stroke this gives STV Player a compelling kids’ offer for the very first time.

“We have ambitious plans to turn STV Player into a world-class streaming service, delivering a personalised STV for everyone. The Hopster-STV partnership reinforces our reputation as Scotland’s number 1 streaming service for family viewing.”

Supporting the new partnership, STV will be offering marketing and sponsorship for Hopster’s award-winning app across its portfolio of brands and services.

The Hopster partnership is part of STV’s 3-year strategy for creative and digital growth, which will see the company invest £15m in new original content and its digital service STV Player to re-establish STV as an independent creative force in Scotland and beyond.

Hopster and STV are already planning the next phase of their partnership which will involve enabling STV Player users to subscribe to Hopster directly via STV’s website and bundling the Hopster app with STV’s new ad-free subscription version of STV Player.
