So you’ve been running around all weekend looking for costumes and Halloween decoration? Luckily we’ve got the treats sorted, as these stringy cornflake spiders are super easy and quick to make. What’s more, you can get your little pumpkin smashers involved and get them doing the pouring and mixing.

Gluten intolerance in the family? No worries, these treats are completely gluten-free. So really, although they look spooky, these spiders are actually very tame.

What you’ll need?

  • 50g butter
  • 100g chocolate, broken into chunks
  • 3 tbsp golden syrup
  • 100g gluten-free cornflakes
  • Liquorice strings

Healthy variations:

  • Replace butter with coconut oil, peanut or other nut butter
  • Other sticky sweetener instead of syrup (agave syrup, honey)
  • Gluten free cereal
  • Fruit Bowl Peelers (they are 100% fruit, gluten free, no added sugar)

How to prepare it?

Combine butter, chocolate and syrup in a saucepan. Melt on the hob on a low heat. It’s important to stir constantly to avoid burning.

Allow the chocolate mix to cool a little and then pour over the cornflakes. Stir very gently until all cornflakes are covered. Or better still, let your little ones do the job of stirring. They’ll love the texture of the cornflakes and getting their hands dirty.

Get your tiny helpers to spoon the cornflake mix into cupcake cases and put the result in the fridge to set. Take out after 15 minutes.

Cut the liquorice to size and tuck into the cupcake cases.

Voala! Your incy wincy spiders are ready to feed to little trick-or-treaters.

Set your treats for 15 minutes in the fridge.
